The Year That Was 2023

As we embark on a new year, it's only fitting to wrap up the canvas of 2023 and highlight the strokes of creativity that painted the past twelve months. In the world of art, each year brings a unique blend of experiences, and 2023 was no exception. Let's take a stroll down my gallery of memories, pausing at the most vibrant moments.

My residency at Shaper Studio’s 'White Room' in Tasmania became a haven for artistic exploration and self-discovery. The residency there was the crown jewel of 2023, a space where I delved into the colours of Tasmania’s landscapes. The walls echoed with the whispers of creativity as I allowed myself to be enveloped by the blank canvas of possibilities. It was a transformative experience, a period of uninhibited artistic expression that left an indelible mark on my creative journey. I hope to return one day as I met a fabulous arts community during my stay and there was so much more to explore.

On a more local note, "All that we are" stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and connection. This immersive experience not only allowed me to create alongside local talents but also opened the door to meaningful interactions with the  local  arts community. The vibrant tapestry of local life woven into my work added depth and richness to the artistic narrative. It was a celebration of diversity, a fusion of perspectives that made the creative process all the more enriching.

My annual workshop during O'Reilly's International Bird Week proved to be a feather in the cap yet again. Beyond the breathtaking avian wonders, a special highlight was the camaraderie shared with Peter O'Reilly, a member of the founding family. During the workshop, conversations flowed like a gentle stream, laughter echoed through the trees, and the bonds formed were as enduring as the timeless landscapes surrounding us. Meeting students from across Australia added an extra layer of joy, creating a mosaic of shared passion for art and nature. I look forward to this workshop each year as it is such a stunning area to be in.

The successful campaign for ' my new collection Bushlands' marked a milestone in my artistic journey. The exhibition at The Centre in Beaudesert was a triumph, showcasing not just the artwork but the collaborative spirit behind it. The decision to collaborate with Australian printers and local sewers from Queensland supported local craftsmanship and also added a touch of authenticity to the collection. The opening night was not just about showcasing my new collection; it was a reunion of  local artists, a celebration of creativity that echoed through the gallery space.

Looking ahead to 2024, the canvas is already primed for new adventures. Exciting residencies are on the horizon, promising fresh perspectives and unexplored territories. Exhibition spaces have been secured, ready to host the visual narratives that will unfold in the coming months. Workshops in Beaudesert are set to ignite artistic passions, covering the diverse realms of watercolour, drawing, and mixed media. And for those seeking an immersive artistic escape, I am exploring the idea of Art Retreats in Canungra to offer a sanctuary for creative souls to recharge and rejuvenate, while completing workshops that add to their artistic skills. Dont forget to keep an eye out on my socials to see information about whats happening for 2023.

As I reflect on 2023, the palette of memories remains vivid, each stroke a testament to the boundless possibilities that art brings. Here's to a canvas awaiting the brushstrokes of 2024, a year promising new colours, new connections, and an ever-evolving journey through the world of creativity. Cheers to the art that was, and the art yet to be unveiled.
